Fox Proframe Full Face Helmet Matte Black

Season:Sale

Brand:Fox Clothing

Code:19189-255-SMattBlack

The Fox Proframe Helmet is the lightest and most breathable full face helmet Fox have ever created. Designed to perform at the highest levels for aggressive all mountain riders and enduro racers, it packs DH certified protection into a superlight shell via our patent pending, fully integrated chinbar. With 15 Big Bore intake and 9 exhaust vents, the Proframe Helmet offers open face level airflow and breathability to keep you cool on even the longest and most challenging climbs; and once you reach the top, it gives you the confidence to ride to your limits on even the toughest of descents.

This helmet is equipped with the MIPS low friction layer. MIPS is a patented brain protection system developed to reduce rotational violence causing strain in the brain at angled impacts. MIPS mimics the brain’s own protection system by adding a low-friction layer between the head and the helmet. A helmet with MIPS can absorb more energy from an angled impact. Conventional helmets are tested by dropping them vertically onto a flat surface. MIPS is designed and tested for reality, reflecting how most accidents occur, with angled impacts to the head. MIPS raises the bar for helmet safety.

Fox Proframe Helmet Features

  • Our lightest DH approved full frame helmet at 750 grams for a size medium.
  • Fox Integrated chinbar is secured to the main helmet structure with our patent pending system.
  • Highly breathable liner system is moisture wicking and has anti-microbial properties.
  • 24 Big Bore vents make Proframe one of the lightest and most breathable DH approved helmets.
  • Fixed visor is positioned perfectly to ram maximum airflow into the Big Bore vents.
  • Fidlock® SNAP helmet buckle provides quick entry and exit with maximum security.
  • Proven MIPS™ multiple impact protection system reduces rotation forces in a crash.
  • Dual density Varizorb™ EPS liner provides improved protection.

Fox Proframe Full Face Helmet Matte Black review by Professional Review from Enduro MTB Mag, on 25/01/2018

In the past there’s always been a trade-off between protection and ventilation when it came to helmets, but the Fox Proframe has just fundamentally shaken things up. At 750 g, this lightweight full-face helmet is not just a lazy compromise of the two extremes and is, in fact, able to masterfully team protection with outstanding ventilation. The distinctive design includes twenty-four large air vents that perform even when riding at a slow pace, and an open chin guard to ensure maximum ventilation when breathing hard. There’s no shortage of confidence to let off the brakes when wearing this comfy helmet: the chin guard is robust, and there’s ample vision in every direction. A fantastic piece of equipment, its performance is further elevated with features like MIPS and a practical Fidlock magnetic closure.

Fox Proframe boasts ‘open-face breathability with full-face protection’. It’s a lofty claim, but with full-face certification, it certainly delivers.

With huge, gaping holes across the full width of the chin guard it certainly does all it can to maximises airflow as well. It’s slightly heavier than a Met Parachute on the scales, but you’d have to be incredibly sensitive to notice the weight difference while riding. We certainly didn’t. Lining the chin guard is a padded rubber material, that doesn’t actually touch your skin, and two detachable cheek pads. These come in different sizes to help tune the fit, as the Proframe doesn’t get an adjustable retention device.

The upper shell uses a deep, dual-density expanded polystyrene liner that Fox calls Varizorb. As the name suggests, this is designed to absorb the impact in a more progressive manner. Peeping through the huge vent holes is the familiar yellow of a MIPS liner, too. Claimed to reduce rotational brain injuries, MIPs seems to have become a must-have technology for helmet brands in recent times. Ensuring the Proframe is bang up-to-date in terms of technology, the simple chinstrap even gets a magnetic buckle.

With goggles on, it’s rock-solid, and we think most riders will use the Proframe with them, particularly as it’s a tight squeeze trying to fit glasses between the helmet and the side of your head. Putting the Proframe on is quick and easy as there’s no retention device and the strap practically does itself up thanks to the magnetic buckle. Just hold the two ends close to each other and they snap into place. It’s an important point because you’ll take your helmet off numerous times when riding the chairlift in the Alps or the shuttle van in a bike park. The last thing you want to be doing is fumbling with your helmet straps when your mates are disappearing into the distance.

Although it’s fixed, the peak doesn’t obstruct vision in any way and the rear moulding keeps goggles straps securely positioned. Best thing about the Proframe though? It’s the ventilation. There so much airflow to your mouth that it’s difficult to believe that you’re wearing a full-face.

Verdict: You can pedal in it without feeling like you’re on a turbo trainer in a sauna, its light enough that you don’t feel restricted in your movement and it offers better protection than an open-face trail helmet. For days in the bike park or trips to the alps its the perfect foil. For full-face protection with open-face ventilation, we’d take the Fox Proframe.

Fox Proframe Full Face Helmet Matte Black review by Professional Review from Bike Radar, on 13/12/2017

When you first put the Proframe on, you’re struck by a number of things. First of all, it definitely feels like you’re wearing an open rather than full-face lid — the minimal padding and large vents mean you don’t feel like you’re cocooned, like you can in a downhill helmet.

The second thing to note is the weight, or lack of it — my medium lid weighed just 725g. Fit can be adjusted with the different pads included in the box, making the helmet tunable for different head shapes. I found that after a couple of rides the pads compressed as they adjusted to the shape of my head. While this made the Proframe more comfortable, it also made it less secure, so I swapped them out for thicker pads to compensate. It’s worth bearing this in mind when trying the helmet on for size.

As soon as you start climbing, you understand what this lid is all about. You don’t get the steamy, claustrophobic feeling normally associated with winching uphill in a full-face. Breathing feels freer and easier, and I found that, thanks to the heavily-vented chinguard, goggles were less prone to misting up, even on damp days. On the way down the trail, those large vents really come into play, creating plenty of airflow across the top of the head.

Verdict: "A good choice for enduro racers and riders taking their trail bikes to the gnarliest tracks" Highs - Massive amounts of ventilation keeps you cool and stops goggles misting up. Lows - Minimal brow padding makes it uncomfortable for long days. Buy if - Youre an enduro rider looking for a full face helmet with plenty of ventilation.
