LOOKING AFTER YOUR EBIKE
Special considerations for ebikes OVER a conventional bike:
BATTERIES
They combine impressive mileage performance, a long lifetime and are easy to recharge and handle. Batteries can be recharged regardless of their charging state and generally will charge from empty to full power in four hours. Batteries are usually measured in watt hours, a typical battery would be 500-700 watt hours, which under normal use be more than adequate for long rides with power to spare.
Ranges of more than 100 kilometres are possible with a single charge - for more information check out www.bosch-ebike.com/range
MOTORS & GEARBOX
Thinking about how your gearbox responds to gear changes will keep your bike working efficiently. The electric motor drives through the bike’s gears as it helps you pedal, and with the correct gear selected the motor is kept running at its optimum torque and speed. This helps to reduce strain on the motor and gearbox on steep/long climbs. This will also save your battery life, but will also reduce wear on the chain and cassette.
OTHER EBIKE CONSIDERATIONS
If your bike has suspension then the extra weight of the bike has to be taken into account when setting it up. Due to the weight and extra speed of the ebike the brakes are put under greater forces.
Brakes are more powerful on ebikes but it is vital that the brakes are maintained and brake pads are checked regularly to keep the brakes at their optimum performance.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Ebikes are heavier, so make sure your bike rack can handle the weight. A standard three bike rack should support the weight of two ebikes. The extra weight of your bike means that when replacing tyres you purchase the correct extra load tyres now available.
We recommend you always wear a helmet - up to 70% of head injuries can be prevented by wearing a helmet. Our staff will be happy to help you find a good fit.
Keep a chain checker handy to check your chain wear and we recommend using chain lubes that are electric-friendly, such as the WD40 and Muc-Off ranges.
