The Specialized S-Works tarmac SL6 Disc Road Bike, a race bike to be the most complete out there. And now with disc brake mounts, Specialized have managed to make it, well, even more complete.

When Specialized developed the new S-Works Tarmac Disc frameset, we didn't just want it to be fast. No, we wanted it to be fast everywhere. Long climbs, windy flats, Grand Tour stages, local fondos— a race bike to be the most complete out there. And now with disc brakes make it, well, even more complete.

For the construction, utilizing advanced aerospace composite optimization software to revolutionize the construction and layup of the new FACT 12r carbon. It's the most advanced material, and schedule, Specialized have ever made and this allowed them to shed nearly 200 grams. That's right, a 20% reduction in frame weight—the perfect recipe for your next hill climb PR.

We also took major steps to improving the Rider-First Engineered™ technology to ensure that the new Tarmac is stiff and compliant in exactly the right places, all while shedding some serious weight. From different layup schedules and materials, to visibly different forks, scrutinizeing every single aspect of the new Tarmac to ensure you're getting the perfect ride. With this revamp and also updating the geometry, basing it on countless Retül data points and professional rider input. This enabled development of a Performance Road Geometry that perfects the combination of a responsive front-end and short wheelbase, which delivers instantaneous response and optimal power transfer.

And while stiffness aids in the aforementioned, compliance must also be utilized for an optimal ride quality. That's why we designed a seatpost that builds compliance into the upper 120mm where clamping doesn't happen, dropped the seatstays, and altered the seat tube shape. We also added tyre clearance up to 30mm, which translates to a 28mm Turbo Cotton on a Roval CLX 50 Disc wheel. This allows lower pressures for decreased rolling resistance, increased traction, and more comfort. Altogether, these additions still have the Tarmac riding like a true race-machine, but it also takes a bit of the sting out of road imperfections. You'll thank us on your next long ride.

But why disc brakes? The real question is "why not?" They offer superior braking power and modulation, work exceptionally well in wet weather, and offer a very, very minor weight addition. All this means that you have more control and can go faster with more confidence.

Specialized also know, however, that aerodynamic improvements are the most important thing they can do to make you faster. Our Bora-Hansgrohe and Quick-Step Floors Pro Tour riders, after all, are demanding aero improvements on every bike. With this, the aero goal was to discover where we could essentially "add aero for free," by not taking anything away from the hallmarks of the Tarmac design. During the six-month iterative process, three areas were discovered where the design engineers could do this—a new fork shape, dropped seatstays with aero tubes, and a D-shaped seatpost and seat tube. The result? A bike that's approximately 45 seconds faster over 40km compared to other lightweight bikes in the same category.

  • Featuring our Rider-First Engineered™ design that ensures every frame size has the same legendary climbing responsiveness and descending prowess you'd expect from a Tarmac. The S-Works FACT 12r frame is our highest quality carbon frame, offering the ideal blend of light overall weight and targeted stiffness.
  • S-Works full FACT carbon fork with a tapered construction provides incredible front end stiffness and steering response for instantaneous accelerations and high-speed descents.
  • A legendary CeramicSpeed bottom bracket ensures that you're saving every last precious watt.

Sizing Information

Specialized Men's Bike Sizing Guide

We have put together a general sizing guide for Specialized mountain, road & hybrid bikes. The table below is a general guideline to sizing, for an accurate guide to each Specialized model and also how to measure yourself, check out the Specialized Bikes Sizing Guide.

5'4" - 5'7" 52
5'7" - 5'9" 54

How To Measure Yourself

Measure Your Height

Our handy size charts match your height to the appropriate frame size so you need to be sure you’ve measured your height accurately.

  1. Take off your shoes and stand with your back against a wall.
  2. Make sure legs are together and your shoulders are back.
  3. Place a pencil on top of your head and mark the wall (the best and easiest way to do this properly is with a friend to help you).
  4. Measure from the floor to the pencil mark you have just made with a tape measure.

Range of Reach

For most people to get the right frame size, measuring your height will suffice. However, you may find that your height is on the borderline of the range we suggest for a particular frame. If this occurs you need to measure the range of your reach or “Ape Index”. This will ensure you get a comfortable distance between the handlebars and your saddle.

  1. Stand up straight with your back against a wall.
  2. Life your arms out horizontally either side of you.
  3. Measure the distance from fingertip of one hand to fingertip of the other. This will give you your arm span.
  4. Subtract your height from this figure to get your Ape Index.
  5. If the result is positive (your arm span is greater than your height) you should go for the larger size of bike.
  6. If the result is negative (your arm span is less than your height you need the smaller size.

Stand Over Height

You should also consider your inside leg measurement when choosing your bike to ensure adequate stand over height. Stand over height is the clearance between the top tube and the bottom of your crotch. For mountain bikes we recommend a distance of 2-4 inches and for road or hybrid bikes 1-2 inches of clearance is required. This will ensure comfort when you’re stopped and standing astride the bike.

Our bike sizing charts take stand over height into consideration but if you have a particularly long or short inside leg measurement in relation to your height you will need to bear this in mind when selecting your frame size.

Riding Style

The way you ride and the type of bike you are into will also impact the frame size you should choose. For example, a trail devotee looking for an aggressive ride may prefer a smaller, more manoeuvrable bike size. It all comes down to personal preference and how the bike feels to you.

Our sizing charts aim to be as specific as possible so you can look up the particular type, make and model of bike you’re looking for. Remember, the sizes given in our guides are suggestions and should be used for general advice only. For the best possible fit  we recommend popping in to your local Leisure Lakes Bikes store, or call 0800 083 0888 for expert advice tailored to you.
