Specialized SWorks Evade II Road Helmet Hyper Green/Acid Lava

Season : Sale

Brand : Specialized

Code : 60918-183

The Specialized SWorks Evade II Road Helmet is straight up, the fastest road helmet out there today.  Helmets have long been plagued by an unspoken rule: Light weight, ventilation, aerodynamics—pick two, there's your helmet. As you can tell by now, though, we don't play by these rules—or really any for that matter. We'd rather turn standards on their head and create products that nobody ever dreamed of. And you needn't look any further than the new S-Works Evade helmet for proof of this. Straight up, it's the fastest road helmet out there. Beginning with the aerodynamic development, we basically lived in our Win Tunnel to create this Evade. Having our own wind tunnel allows us to develop our products with aero at the forefront of the design, rather than merely testing them there. With this, we carefully analyzed every aspect of helmet performance in the Win Tunnel, and with real world testing, to ensure that we left no stone unturned in the quest for performance. This makes for a helmet that has countless testing hours and years of development, and ultimately, this adds up to the fastest road helmet we've ever tested.

We not only took grams out of the drag, but we did it without sacrificing safety. In fact, we switched the construction to favor our Energy Optimized Multi-Density EPS that optimizes the foam type in different places. As far as ventilation is concerned, free-flowing air through the helmet not only makes the helmet cooler than ever, but it also decreases aerodynamic drag. Going hand-in-hand with this, ventilation and aerodynamics were both optimized in the Win Tunnel together, making for the best combination of aerodynamics and ventilation out there. Now, the exterior vents and interior channels have been carefully considered to make sure that the helmet draws in the maximum amount of air through the helmet for extreme cooling. And the result? The new Evade is just as cool as a bare head with no helmet, making it the coolest aero helmet on the market today.

Through this work, the Evade saves 50 seconds over 40km versus a traditional road helmet and roughly six seconds over the prior iteration of Evade. This means that it's not only as cool as a bare head, but also as fast. For road race helmets, there's nothing that can match this performance. Last, but most certainly not least, a fast helmet is useless unless it fits correctly. With this in mind, the new S-Works Evade has all the features you'd expect from a top-level helmet, like our Mindset HairPort 2 fit system with micro-adjustments, our soft webbing that won't stretch out, and a new Gutter Action brow pad that manages sweat to keep it out of your eyes. And to top it off, we've added a new magnetic buckle to the mix that makes buckling with one hand a breeze.

Specialized SWorks Evade II Road Helmet Features

  • Through extensive Win Tunnel development, the Evade is the fastest road helmet we've tested.
  • 4th Dimension Cooling System with deep internal channels, large vents, and aligned exhaust ports make it the best combination of aerodynamics and ventilation.
  • Patented Energy Optimized Multi-Density EPS construction helps to manage impact energy.
  • Patented Aramid-Reinforced Skeleton provides internal EPS support to help manage impact energy.
  • Ultra-light Mindset HairPort II micro-dial fit system with height adjustability for the perfect fit.

Specialized SWorks Evade II Road Helmet Hyper Green/Acid Lava Review by Professional Review from Road Cycling Uk.com,  On 09/02/2018 14:42:30

The S-Works Evade II replaces the original Evade in the helmet line-up, and whereas the original helmet was developed on borrowed time in other people’s wind tunnels, the Evade II was put to the test in Specialized’s own ‘Win Tunnel’ (see what they did there?), built in Morgan Hill, California, in the interim. The result, Specialized says, was more time to develop and test the new helmet’s wind-cheating shape.

Now, the Evade II is an aero road helmet, designed for those long stages where every watt and every second counts. Think a sprint stage at the Tour de France where Peter Sagan is fighting for another green jersey. However, while Specialized wanted to develop a faster helmet in the wind tunnel, the company also wanted to improve ventilation. Think back to that Tour stage, where both comfort and performance over 200km are key. As a result, Specialized also used the wind tunnel to test ventilation, using sensors on a heated mannequin to determine the best layout for vents.

The Evade II is more compact than the original, with a shorter shape and less overhang at the front and back, while the lid doesn’t drop down as much over the ears. Inside, there are deep channels to pull air over the head and out of the rear exhaust ports. According to Specialized, the Evade II is six seconds faster than the Evade over 40km (as with most aero numbers, we’ll have to take Specialized’s word on those), while using the helmet is said to be the equivalent of riding with a bare head (that’s a claimed two per cent improvement over the Evade, while the lightweight Prevail is said to be seven per cent cooler than riding with a bare head).

Other updates include dual density foam to bring the Evade II in line with the Prevail. Specialized has used denser foam on the side of the lid, to protect against high-impact kerb hits, and lighter foam across the top where, because it’s spread over a larger area, it is said to better dissipate energy in the event of a crash. There’s also an Aramid roll cage, new padding designed to draw sweat away from the eyes, and a magnetic closure. While the magnetic closure adds some weight over a traditional design, the Evade II is still claimed to be around 20g lighter than the original, mostly thanks to the dual density design.

Specialized SWorks Evade II Road Helmet Hyper Green/Acid Lava Review by Professional Review from Cycling Weekly.com,  On 09/02/2018 14:45:47

A few years ago Specialized built its own wind tunnel to bring more of its testing in house, and from that investment came the Specialized Evade 2 – “the fasted helmet the company has ever tested”. While it is six seconds faster than the original Specialized S-Works Evade, speed wasn’t the only aim with the Evade 2, and according to Specialized, it wanted to create an aero helmet that was also cool enough to handle the hardest and hottest stages of the WorldTour. By adding 12 heat sensors underneath the helmet, Specialized was able to make it as “cool as a bare head” – a very literal, if slightly bizarre metaphor.

Although it might not look it, the S-Works Evade 2 is in fact two centimetres shorter than the old model to bring it up-to-date, and it also weighs 15-20g less. On the top of the helmet, there now sits just one vent, rather than the previous three, which channels air through deep channels on the inside and out of the rear exhaust port. The shell is a reinforced multi-density construction that should help absorb impacts, but Specialized has confirmed for us that there will be no MIPs equipped version of the helmet.

Specialized has also added a magnetic closure system to the helmet, which while it does add weight should also make it easier to put your helmet on without taking your hands of the bars. Its mindset retention system remains in place, and Specialized has incorporated the Hairport system from it women’s line because the lower a dial sits on the head, the more comfortable the helmet.
