Nukeproof Reactor 290 Expert NX 29er Mountn Bike Military Green/Green Information

Season : 2020

Brand : Nukeproof

Code : 701976-NPROOF20

Introducing the all new Nukeproof Reactor: an old school name with a very new school look. Although it takes its name from the original 1996 Nukeproof Reactor trail frame, a lot has changed in the last 23 years as it runs an all new trail focused platform.

From concept through to design, the Kinematics, the geometry and specification; the Reactor is designed from the ground up to be the ultimate aggressive trail bike. It is at home on technical climbs, but happiest when thrashing the most technical trails you can point it at.

Frame Construction:

The Alloy Reactor features a custom triple butted hydro-formed tube set and carbon seat stays, which help reduce the overall weight of the frameset. Critically this reduces the unsprung weight; making the suspension as active as possible.

The Reactor is available for 27.5” or 29” wheel sizes. These are two totally different, compromise free frames that were designed and developed at the same time.  Each frame is simply tailored around each wheel size.

Speed or play: which do you value more? The manoeuvrability of 27.5” or the raw speed of a 29”?

Adjustable Geometry:

  1. All Reactor frames feature a “flip chip” to adjust the geometry from “Trail” to “Rail mode”.
  2. Trail – As the name suggests, this setting is best suited for trail riding. It is for riders who get as much enjoyment from the climb as the descents.
  3. Rail – The Rail setting turns the Reactor into a corner shredder, dropping the bottom bracket 6mm and slackening the head angle by half a degree. It is there to maximise the descending capabilities.

Suspension Design:

To ensure the bike could climb as well as it descends, the Engineers at Nukeproof designed the 4 bar horst linkage to have higher levels of anti-squat for climbing gears but lower levels when you drop down the cassette. This means that the bike can behave itself on the climbs but when you get it up to speed, it turns into a trail hooligan. The combination of low anti-squat and progressive rate give ultimate small bump compliance (removes rough trail and root chatter) with good mid stroke support for cornering/pumping and end stroke progression for aggressive riding. Balanced anti-rise figures allow the Reactor some squat when braking hard, maintaining rider position and providing a good amount of pressure through the tyre to ensure traction. The Reactor is designed to reward the rider and ensure you get that stoke factor in on any ride.

NUKEPROOF: THE HISTORY BEHIND THE BRAND

Nuke Proof Industries, the brain child of founder John Muenzenmeyer, started life in 1990 from the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a passionate rider, John’s aim was to create desirable, innovative and reliable solutions to meet the demands of the emerging 90’s mountain bike market.  Nuke Proof Industries was pioneering in its design with the use of exotic materials such as titanium and carbon fibre. They were best known for their famous carbon/aluminium hubs.

Nuke Proof Industries went on to produce titanium frames, carbon fibre handle bars and other innovative components, represented at races by athletes such as James Bethea, a local courier with an appetite for winning with a unique attitude to boot.

Simultaneously, ex Downhill Masters World Champion Nigel Page was assembling the Chain Reaction Cycles-Intense team to compete in the UCI Downhill World Cup. Nigel chose to work with Nukeproof to develop components to meet the teams exacting standards, enabling them to test and showcase our components at the highest level of the sport (standing on the podium at the team’s first race). At the 2010 Interbike show in Las Vegas, Michael and Nigel decided the time was right to design and race our own bike, paving the way for the development of Nukeproof’s first downhill frame: the Scalp.

Today, with numerous UCI Downhill World Cup and Enduro World Series victories behind them, Nigel and the race team are integral to the development and testing of all new components and bikes. None more so than the iconic 3 times Downhill World Champion and two time Enduro World Series Champion Sam Hill developing his own signature series of Nukeproof components developed specifically for his requirements.

Now designed and developed in Belfast Northern Ireland, Nukeproof products are sold through select independent bike dealers around the world. The brand continues to evolve whilst retaining its proud history and traditions of being crafted ‘by riders for riders’.
