This is NOT a £160 pair of MTB shoes, its just nowhere near comfortable enough

This is NOT a £160 pair of MTB shoes, its just nowhere near comfortable enough.

The insole is painfully thin and unsupportive, just like the shape of the shoe shape under it, it has tiny amounts of padding where it should actually be supportive and the shoes are just as ventilated as far cheaper £75 pair I have from the same brand.

The velcro straps on these also dig into the top of your feet far more than other cheaper MTB shoes of the same brand too.

It makes you feel as if the top strap is too high up the shoe, and the velcro is too thin, thus reducing the padding on the strap.

Not impressed with these at all, the treads on the bottom are not thick enough to keep your SPD cleats from scraping floors either..

Professional Review for Specialized BG Expert MTB Shoe

Before you get to the higher priced option of a custom fit show - where the shoe is moulded to your foot via a heat-treating process - some manufacturers offer a few fitting tweaks to tailor their shoes to your feet. Specialized's BG Experts are contoured on the outsole for a better fit, but the real plus is the carbon-fibre sole - it's light, stiff and allows for maximum power transfer to the pedal. A great package for the money.

Our size guides will help you choose the most comfortable size for you. First though, you will need to measure yourself as accurately as possible, we’ve put together some tips to help you get the correct measurement.

Please note that each shoe brand is slightly different in their sizing e.g we find that Specialized shoe sizing is very accurate, while Shimano shoe sizes are on the small side. If you're normally a EU42, order size EU42 in Specialized shoes and size EU43 in Shimano shoes.

If you want to make sure you get the right sizing please visit one of our seven bike stores so you can try on different sizes and get advice of our expert staff.

For the best results take your foot measurements whilst wearing socks you would normally wear when riding.

Measuring your feet at home

 What you will need:

  • A piece of paper larger than your foot
  • A pencil
  • Ruler
  • Tape-measure

1. Place the piece of paper on the floor with your foot firmly pressed down and position your leg bent slightly forward so that your shin is slightly in front of your ankle.

2. Trace the outline of your foot and remember to measure your foot without shoes, but with socks similar to the ones you'll be wearing with the cycling shoes you are buying.

3. Draw straight lines touching the outermost points at the top, bottom, and both sides of your foot outline.

4. Use your ruler or measuring tape to measure the length from the bottom line to the top line that you drew in step three.

Be sure to hold the measuring tape straight, and find the closest mark that you can (for inches, use the closest 16th mark) - don't round up or down dramatically.

5. Many people will need a narrow or wide shoe so to determine this, measure the width of your foot by using your measuring tape or ruler to measure from the line on one side of your tracing, to the line on the other side.

6. Repeat these steps for your other foot, and use the larger of the two.

After you have your numbers written down, you'll want to subtract 3/16 of an inch from the numbers. This is to accommodate for the slight space between your actual foot and the line made by the pencil.

These final numbers are your actual foot measurements, you can convert them to the appropriate size and width using the charts below:
