Excellent Pack

Bought this 2011 version for my wife, who had not enjoyed the weight of pack contents shifting about in her Camelbak Octane. This one does the trick, much better stability, better 3 litre bladder notch holding device, and more pockets / features for a good price. Only minor details to note are the lack of hip pockets for keys, and not all women will like the compression chest straps, but otherwise a really good value pack (with lots more detail and features in this version) at a competitive price.

Good lightweight day pack

I purchased this item to compliment my Camelbak Cross 20, which is too large for summer use.
The Mule is light, strong and importantly for me contains a 3 litre bladder, which is ideal as I am a heavy water consumer. The storage space is ample to carry a spare tube, multi-tool, pump, lightweight jacket and the usual additional paraphernalia for a hack across the Scottish Highlands.
The only thing I would like to see is the addition of side storage elasticated 'pods' for the stowage of sunglasses / nutrition bars etc, which can be retrieved and stowed without the need to remove the pack.
I have tried alternative brands but I feel that the build quality of the Camelbak brand is second to none.

Camel bak or not to camel bak

Yes it is a lot of bucks but you get a lot of bag for them. The pockets are cavenous for a day ride, the 3ltr reservoir is big enough for a hard day in the sun, the phone pocket is a good touch and has a water resistant zip to boot. The adjustment is great the only niggle is that the camelbak reservoir bite valve dangles in the wind as it does come with a hook, or velco fastener - small issue on a very good bag.

Excellent day pack

I bought this pack with no experience of hydration packs whatsoever. It has since proved to be an fantastic purchase and one that I would never take back. I now refer to any hydration pack as a "Camelbak". The pack has 11.5 litres of storage with a 3 litre bladder and 2 zipped compartments (1 large, 1 small) plus 2 mesh compartments (1 medium, 1 small). The small zipped compartment has internal dividers for gels, patch kits, multi-tools etc. The pack also has a MP3/phone pocket with a waterproof zip. It uses raised pads on the back to help circulate the air on your back. However, when heavily loaded this feature is near useless and can sometimes be uncomfortable. All other times though this is a brilliant pack and great value (I don't know how some of the other reviewers can say this is not good value).
I would certainly recommend this product.

Fantastic purchase - Camelback Mule Hydration Bag

Has a 10 litre space and 3 litre drink reservoir capacity, great to get you through whatever distance ride you wish to do. Design of pack allows air flow between your pack and back keeping you cool and comfortable. Plenty of pockets and compartments including a zipped pocket at the top for IPod / MP3 player. Great looking pack too. I got mine in green which matches my Orange Crush, but all colours look awesome.

We used to think that the HAWG was the best daypack there but its little brother the MULE provides pretty stiff competition: it has enough space for all your essentials, good internal organisation, easy to access pockets and excellent strap management. But what really sells it is its weight and build quality - it's one of the lightest out there and you could easily use it for years. We have with ours. Camelbak's new reservoir improves the design of the cap and is durable and easy to clean. Strong in every department, this easily deserves top marks.

Professional Review for Camelbak Mule 3 Litre Hydration Pack

The Mule's fabric is robust yet not too heavy and pocket arrangement is exactly what you need, featuring a large main compartment, plus smaller front organiser, and an MP3 pocket with waterproof zip and rubberised port for the cord. There are even two mesh sections (one large, one small). The current Mule uses raised, mesh covered pads to lift the pack away from your back and create airflow, but we found this the least successful part of the design. We were constantly aware of them and found it took a while to get everything settled. Camelbak bladders have no nasty plastic taste and the bite valve has set the standard for other contenders to strive for. A large lip around the opening makes it easy to hold for filling and cleaning, and although the feebler armed among us struggle a little with the snug seal, it's guaranteed to be leak proof for life. The classic, standard-setting daypack still delivers hydration and organisation with efficiency.
